Part of the Florals of the Deep series, Florals of the Deep Two plays on an abstract idea of flowers by exploring deep-sea gardens - coral ecosystems discovered thriving in near-total darkness within the ocean’s "twilight zone". The composition balances dimensional hand-stitching with tactile faux floral blooms in soft pastel tones of blush pink, lilac, sky blue, sage, and sunny ochre. Included in the elements of this piece are salvaged surplus couture sequins, beads and findings - pristine atelier embellishments rescued from landfill - each individually placed by hand to catch the light and build sculptural relief across the circular surface. Requiring 40 hours of devoted hand-stitching, the reverse remains intentionally unlined to reveal the hidden architecture of thousands of knots and thread pathways.
