The Sand So Full of Colour and Sparkle, Two, is the second exploration of the hidden complexity and rhythmic motion of coastal seabeds, inspired by the way tidal currents ripple sand in shallow waters and the surprising secret it holds under magnification. While sand appears uniform to the naked eye, a microscope reveals it is composed of billions of brilliantly colourful mineral grains, polished quartz, tiny shells, and vibrant micro-fossils. Undulating ridges of dense seed beads, pearls, and metallic threads trace the soft waveforms of the ocean floor, while hand-cut confetti of salvaged threads, faux leather, and reflective foil scatter across the canvas to celebrate this kaleidoscope of microscopic life. Requiring around 150 hours of devoted hand-stitching, the reverse remains intentionally unlined to reveal the hidden architecture of thousands of knots and thread pathways.
